Clinique Spectrum is excited to offer once again the registered Behaviour Technician (RBT)™ training starting on April 17th, 2023!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication, social skills, and behaviour. Autism affects 1 in 66 Canadian youth.

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based strategy that uses the science of behaviour to teach skills and promote desired behaviour. It is often used as an intervention for children with autism.

RBT (Registered Behaviour Technician) is a credential offered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board for individuals providing direct behaviour-analytic services to children with autism (www.bacb.com/rbt). An RBT is an integral part of the intervention team, supporting the child in home, school, and/or community environments. RBTs work under the supervision and guidance of a BCBA (Board Certified Behaviour Analyst), who provides the intervention goals and strategies.

“Thank you Brenda and Richard for making the most out of this class even with many restrictions due to our current circumstances. You were both very helpful and provided me with the proper resources to understand the course material from home. You were both responsive when I had any questions, even from a distance.

I am happy to share that I was able to learn so much, through theory and through the experience of my instructors and other learners, and I have already been able to apply some of what I learned in my day-to-day. I am forever grateful for this experience! Once again, huge thank you to Brenda and Richard!”

What is included?*

  1. The 45-hour online RBT Curriculum (Required by the BACB to become certified). This training is based on the 2nd edition RBT task list and is designed to meet the 42-hour RBT training requirement in order to become certified. This training is offered independent of the BACB.
  2. The training includes detailed training slides, videos, weekly quizzes and active student responding, as well as interactive discussions between the trainers (BCBA’s). Practice tests, group activities and class discussions are designed to ensure you will be prepared to complete the competency exam with your supervisor once completing the course and sit for the BACB RBT Exam.
  3. 320-page RBT Training Binder.

*The Competency Assessment required by the BACB to become certified is not included within the Clinique Spectrum online RBT Training. The assessment must be administered by a BCBA, following the completion of the 45-hour RBT training requirement and should be done by someone who will be directly supervising your work.

What makes our training different?

Our training is proudly provided live, by two masters-level Board Certified Behaviour Analysts with a combined experience of over 25 years in the field of autism and neurodevelopmental disorders. Upon completion, students will also have the requirements needed to pursue their RBT certification with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). We offer the competency test to our students who pass the course and would like to pursue a career in the field with our team.

The training focuses on the topics from the RBT Task List, which includes lessons on the functions of behaviour, behaviour measurement, the science behind learning, and we also cover topics pertinent to practicing within Canada and Quebec, such as local ethical dilemmas, autism and navigating the services available.  This is what makes our course complete and of the highest professional standard.

Students who take Clinique Spectrum’s RBT class will have the opportunity to learn and practice the teaching strategies and be provided with feedback. Teachers use a variety of different strategies to ensure students master the material, from quizzes, to videos, case studies as well as troubleshooting actual scenarios.

The RBT training focusses on teaching educators and therapists to be better equipped when helping learners with special needs, in particular autism. It will also serve as an introduction into the field of Therapy using the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis.

Within this training, you will learn how to:

  • Conduct effective teaching trails using discrete trail and naturalistic teaching strategies
  • Properly assess challenging behaviour and address it based on its function (I.e. what the learner is trying to communicate)
  • Use proactive strategies to help reduce challenging behaviour and increase or replace with adaptive behaviour
  • Use proactive strategies to help reduce challenging behaviour and increase or replace with adaptive behaviour
  • Track and measure behaviour effectively and so much more…

“As a parent, I found this class extremely helpful in understanding the various approaches used in ABA therapy with our young child and the potential underlying reasons behind difficult behaviours, along with empowering strategies to address them effectively.”
